(ThePatriotSource.com)- Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has touted herself as a supporter of the little guy. But residents of Queens this week went off on the progressive representative for her role in killing thousands of potential jobs in their neighborhood.
In 2018, tech giant Amazon finally announced that it would be splitting its second headquarters into two East Coast locations. The first would be in Crystal City, Virginia, which is located just outside of Washington, D.C. The second would be in Long Island City, which is located in Queens.
That site in Queens would have brought thousands and thousands of jobs to the region, not to mention the billions of dollars in revenue it would’ve generated every year. It’s likely complementary businesses such as hotels, restaurants, entertainment and housing would have popped up in the vicinity of the warehouse.
But AOC and some of her other Democratic “leaders” had a problem with the tax incentives Amazon would’ve received for opening up shop in Long Island City. In addition, she and New York state Senator Mike Gianaris didn’t like the fact that Amazon is known as a company that is against unions.
Ultimately, Amazon decided against opening in Long Island City, depriving the region of those jobs and those people of a livelihood.
Now, residents of the area are lashing out at AOC, whose district doesn’t even include Long Island City. Residents said it was a “squandered economic opportunity” that has been made worse by the economic fallout of the coronavirus pandemic.
The New York Post spoke with local business owners who all went off on AOC. Eric Benaim said:
“I’m watching AOC selling ‘Tax the rich’ T-shirts for $58 while businesses are leaving New York. That’s AOC’s solution. Who is going to pay $58 for a T-shirt when you’re out of a job?”
Donna Drimer, who owns a local art gallery, said:
“We’re in the middle of a pandemic. People say, ‘If only we had Amazon.’ We got nothing. AOC, Gianaris, [local Councilman Jimmy] Van Bramer — wake up! People are leaving. Businesses are closing.”
Gianna Cerbone, who owns a local restaurant, said the progressives on the far-left are delusional and have ruined western Queens in the process. She said:
“I’m angry at the stupidity. Everybody fears AOC, who has no idea what she’s doing. Opposing Amazon benefited other communities. Imagine if AOC did something positive with her big mouth. I believed in Gianaris. Mike believed in the community until he went so far up AOC’s ass she couldn’t s**t him out.”
When Amazon decided not to locate in Long Island City, some other Democrats weren’t too happy, either. Though not as direct as the local business owners, Governor Andrew Cuomo said:
“A small group of politicians put their own narrow political interests above their community — which poll after poll showed overwhelmingly supported bringing Amazon to Long Island City — the state’s economic future and the best interests of the people of this state. The New York State Senate has done tremendous damage. They should be held accountable for this lost economic opportunity.”
