Meghan McCain might be extremely anti-Trump, but she’s still (sort of) a Republican and occasionally takes down progressive hypocrisy in really satisfying ways. The fact that she is a regular face on The View makes it even better.
In a recent episode of the show, the daughter of the late Senator John McCain took far-left host Joy Behar to task over her hypocrisy surrounding her support for Bernie Sanders. Specifically, McCain challenged Behar’s claim that she was “never all-in” for the socialist Senator.
She kinda was.
During a discussion about Bernie Sanders’ massive victory in the Nevada caucus, McCain said that she believed the future of the Democratic Party was with socialists like Sanders. However, the remaining hosts (all clearly left-wing liberals) disagreed, saying it was too early to tell what was going to happen.
“For conservatives, this is where I think Democrats are at,” McCain noted. “I think the era of the moderate Democrat is long gone. I think it’s full socialism – all day long. And at least we now know as conservatives that it’s going to be ‘the Squad’ and AOC and Rashida Tlaib and Bernie.”
“The Squad” is a group of young congresswomen who espouse socialist ideas, including far-left radical Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
Behar immediately disagreed with the comment, but that should come as no surprise to most viewers. The controversial left-wing host, who has a habit of annoying conservatives, said that there was still time in the Democratic race for things to change, dismissing the likelihood that socialist Bernie Sanders would easily take the nomination. But McCain wasn’t going to let it slide, noting that Behar loved Sanders so much she even named her dog after him.
“You love him. You named your dog after him!” she said.
That got Behar upset, because she immediately snapped back, “First of all, I was never all-in on Bernie,” she said, before claiming her dog’s name was a joke.
“It was a joke, okay? I also said I was aroused by him, which was really a joke. But I think that at the time, I thought Hillary was a shoo-in, so I was having fun with Bernie. Now, I’m not so sure.”
The lady doth protest too much!
