Largest U.S. Abortion Organization Officially Endorses Joe Biden, A Catholic, For President

( Calling it a “life and death election,” Planned Parenthood has endorsed presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden for president.

The Planned Parenthood Action Fund, which is the advocacy arm of the largest abortion provider in the world, released a statement Monday that explained its backing of Biden. The group said Biden has continually supported increasing legal protections for abortion, promoted “comprehensive sex education” and tried to expand access to contraception.

They also pointed to Biden’s stated objective of reversing President Donald Trump’s rule that prohibits taxpayer funds through Title X to go to any organization that gives referrals for abortions.

The acting president of Planned Parenthood, Alex McGill Johnson, recently told NPR that November’s General Election “is literally a life and death election. We felt like we can’t endure another four years of Trump; we have to do everything we can to get him out of office.”

Along with its announcement, Planned Parenthood released a video that showed Biden promising to promote the organization’s overall agenda. In the video, he said:

“Together, we’re going to reverse the global gag rule and the domestic gag rule, restoring the Title X program. We will protect women’s constitutional right to choose. I’m proud to stand with you in this fight.”

Beyond just working with Planned Parenthood to advance their agenda, Biden — a self-proclaimed Catholic — has said he would tell the Department of Justice to “do everything in its power” to block states that try to place restrictions on abortion. This includes not just abortion procedures, but also waiting periods, ultrasound laws and notification requirements.

On the other side of argument, some people were quite offended to hear Planned Parenthood describe the upcoming election as “life and death,” especially as they are the largest abortion organization in the country. As the president of the March For Life Education and Defense Fund, Jeanne Mancini, said:

“It is offensive to hear our nation’s largest abortion provider, Planned Parenthood, an organization that claims the lives of 345,672 American babies annually (a third of all of the abortions in this country each year), call the 2020 cycle a ‘life and death’ election. Those who really care about protecting life realize that the election of Planned Parenthood-endorsed candidate, Joe Biden, will result in a major increase of tax dollars going to the billion-dollar organization, including direct payment for abortions, among other deadly consequences.”

November’s election will pit two candidates on completely opposite ends of the abortion argument. While Biden is an ardent supporter of abortion rights, Trump is just the opposite. He was the first president to attend the March for Life, an annual event in Washington, D.C. Prior to the march, he said:

Every person — the born and unborn, the poor, the downcast, the disabled, the infirm and the elderly — has inherent value.” He also said the United States “proudly and strongly reaffirms our commitment to protect the precious gift of life at every stage, from conception to natural death.”
