(ThePatriotSource.Com)- The New York Times reported on Saturday that despite the president issuing a strict new China travel ban, more than 40,000 people have arrived in the United States from China over the last few weeks.
In total, some 430,000 people have arrived at United States airports from China since the virus was disclosed officially by the Chinese government. In that time, the Chinese virus has killed tens of thousands of people all over the world.
The people who have since arrived in the United States from China include American citizens, legal residents, and family members of American citizens. Around 279 flights have arrived in the United States from China since President Trump signed the travel ban on January 31.
Trump has praised the decision to enact a travel ban, citing the part it played in slowing the spread of the virus across. The United States.
“I do think we were very early, but I also think that we were very smart, because we stopped China,” the president said last Tuesday during a daily press briefing. “That was probably the biggest decision we made so far.”
The decision to stop travel from China was made a day after the spread of the Chinese virus was declared a global pandemic by the World Health Organization.
According to the New York Times report, screening of people in the United States was lacking. Andrew Wu, a passenger who arrived at Los Angeles International Airport from Beijing last month, told the New York Times that he was “surprised at how lax the whole process was.”
“The guy I spoke to read down a list of questions, and he didn’t seem interested in checking out anything.”
Until recently, coronavirus test kits have been scarce and restricted largely to hospital environments to help deal with the immediate problem of people suffering. This likely explains why airports were not equipped with the devices to test passengers.
While the China travel ban has been effective, the sheer number of people who arrived in the United States from China since the virus was first declared gives us an insight into how the virus spread.
